Printed circuit boards or multilayer circuits

Printed circuit boards (PCBs) are a fundamental part of all electronic devices. The development of the first PCBs revolutionised the electronics industry, which has since been able to produce more compact devices. PCB production machines are one of the flagship products of TSK Schill GmbH (Höllmüller) and KK SOLUTIONS. Use our experience and production capabilities for your success!

What exactly are PCBs?

PCBs are therefore printed circuits in which electrical conductors are embedded with connectors. The conductive tracks (wires) and pads (soldering points) ensure that many electrical components can be connected in a very small space. Printed circuit boards are made of insulating material. They also provide stabilisation for the connected electrical components.

The key to a functional PCB is to design it according to the function of the device. That is why at TSK Schill GmbH and KK SOLUTIONS we maintain constant contact with the customer, who provides us with all the information about their expectations and needs. In this way, we take care to minimise production costs while maintaining the highest product quality of the PCBs we produce. Our support for business partners is based on the highest level of industry knowledge, the ability to translate the customer's vision into the design of the production equipment, and advanced machinery.

How are printed circuit boards manufactured on machines from TSK Schill GmbH (Höllmüller) and KK SOLUTIONS?

The entire process of PCB production follows a fixed sequence.

Checking the source files

The customer creates the PCB design himself and passes it on to the corresponding PCB production machine. In order for the machines to "understand" what they are supposed to do, the design is translated into a language they are familiar with. In this way, an electronic data set is created that can be checked automatically or with the help of an engineer. It has to be checked whether the tracks are not too close together or whether the areas intended for the components match.

Laminate work

A laminate is required for the production of a printed circuit board and is stored in a special storage room. The laminate boards are selected for PCB production according to total thickness, amount of copper or insulation. In a further step, they are cleaned and the often frayed edges are prepared. In another step, a Lasar machine drills holes or blind via's, the places needed for the vias and electrical components. Finally, the PCB is cleaned again and freed from material residues.

Metallisation of the printed circuit board and preparation of the conductor tracks

In the next steps, the PCB is plated through or completely metallised, either horizontally or vertically. KK Solutions has further developed the horizontal electroplating, which reliably transports and electroplates the PCBs for the highest demands.

Develop-etch-stripe

After cleaning and drying the PCB, the light-sensitive layer and the mask with the outlines of the tracks are applied. After this process, the board is subjected to a photo process and then developed. This is followed by one of the most critical process steps, namely the etching process. The tracks and pads are formed out and must meet the tightest tolerances in terms of track widths and heights. The undeveloped film is stripped in the next step. The special equipment developed by TSK Schill and KK Solutions meets the highest standards while being customer and maintenance friendly.

Verification of the printed circuit board and further production work

This is the time when the quality of the finished PCB is checked. This is done using advanced optical electronic inspection (AOI), which checks the PCB against the design.

Grouting

An adhesive layer is applied horizontally to the multilayers or multi-layer circuits using black oxide or a common black oxide substitute process. The finished panels are then combined and joined in a press.

End layers

If everything is in order, an additional protective layer is applied to the laminate. To protect the tracks from oxidation, the PCBs are treated with a protective layer in a horizontal system, which is either metallic (e.g. tin or silver) or organic.
